Photography - My Love for Breakfast Food

My Love for Breakfast Food

My LOVE for breakfast food began when I was a child. During my childhood my mother always told me breakfast was the most important meal of the day. As years have progressed in my life I could not agree more. My breakfasts are never small or boring. Its go big or go home with breakfast food. My breakfasts consist of full course meals, ones which you would find at restaurants. You would never expect a child or a college student to prepare such extravagant meals for breakfast but, I do. Breakfast represents me. It starts me off on my day and sets the mood and pace for the day. Breakfast is my personality hence my passion for it. The relationship between food and people's emotions are intertwined. If the food provided to you is not pleasing your personality is disgusted, displeased, disappointed etc.. Whereas, if provided a very pleasing meal your emotions will be happiness, joy, pleasure etc...

In the photos below, take your time and enjoy them. Food is all about enjoyment. All photos were taken by me at the Original Pancake House. Their unique style to breakfast and enjoyment for making breakfast food is shown through the quality of their food. My breakfast experience has been great here and I will continue to enjoy there fantastic, fun and flavorful service and food.

In this first photo we have Bacon Pancakes. Bacon Pancakes are essential heaven on a plate. The bacon bits are mixed within the pancake mix creating a very playful and enjoyable taste. My first time experiencing this dish was absolutely amazing. I associate happiness with this meal. This dish is definitely a dish I will try to create on my own. The fluffiness of the pancakes and the crispiness of the bacon make eating my two favorite foods, pancakes and bacon, so enjoyable. Not having to eat the separately and instead combining the taste in my mouth really brightens up my day.

In this photo we have French Pancakes. French Toast for most people is made with a loaf of bread however, the twist is the same ingredients are used in pancakes. I call this dish the French Pancake. My mind was completely blown when trying this meal! I love breakfast food and this meal right here just made it so much better. The combination of cinnamon, raisins, and pancake created a perfect combination in my mouth taking me back to some of my happiest memories.

In this final photo we have my 'omelet lover' side showing. Omelets are my nutritional aspect I eat at breakfast with the addition of two silver dollar pancakes. The Omelet is the main dish and the pancakes are just a complementary necessity. Here this omelet is made with 6 eggs, spinach, tomatoes, cheese, peppers (green and red), and mushrooms. With all these wonderful ingredients the omelet ends up being bigger than the pancakes. Even though this dish is often hard to finish each bite was worth it.

In conclusion, for me food reflects my personality and I believe it is the same for everyone else. If you are a very bright person like myself you probably would love all the dishes I mentioned about. The amount flavors in your mouth when eating this dish is absolutely amazing and always brightens my day. I totally agree with Fanny Fern, an American columnist, who wrote that "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach"(1). Food and our human emotions are intertwined. Food makes us who we are and defines where we are from.

  1. As I specified in class and on the assignment sheet for this photo essay, the "only text that should accompany these photos will be hashtags." Therefore, I am grading you only on the introduction (before the photos), the photos, and the hashtags, and disregarding the other text next to and under the photos.

    Grade breakdown:

3/4 for intro (1.5 out of 2 for framing a "feeling" or "emotion." Love for something can be slightly different than the feeling or emotion of "love," so you might need to specify or define how you are conceiving of "love" in your introduction. You do better by the end of the paragraph by including specific emotions like "joy" and "happiness," however.) (& 1.5 out of 2 for grammar/writing mechanics. You can still work on improving word choice; for example, you use "personality" incorrectly when you write that "your personality is disgusted..." - someone's personality means their enduring characteristics, while "disgusted" describes a fleeting or temporary feeling. An example of a grammatical mistake is "Its" at the beginning of your fifth sentence; since you mean "it is" here, you should use the contraction "It's" with the apostrophe mark. Additionally in the last sentence of your intro, "there" should be "their.")
2/3 for photos (The color scheme is consistent and works well given your subject. However, is there a reason that you decided to format the first two landscape photos as portrait photos? They would work better if you had presented them on the page as landscape photos, as they were originally photographed. You could also think more critically about composition. Think about the placement of each object in the photograph: do you want to follow the rule of thirds, which makes a photo well-balanced? Or if you want to create an uncanny or disorienting effect, you might choose to violate the rule of thirds, as you do in the last photograph. However, for any decision, there has to be a good reason why you choose to compose the photo in that way, and it should relate to what you convey in your intro. In this case, a more well-balanced composition/framing would work better in these three photos, since the emotions you tackle are "happiness" and "pleasure.")
2.5/3 for hashtags (you misspell "omelette" or "omelet" in your last hashtag, which makes the hashtag not functional.)

    Total: 7.5/10
    Letter Grade: C
