The Italian Side of Me

The Italian Side of Me

One of my all time, go to dishes is the Lasagna Bolognese. This dish is one that has class and style. Never disappointing to the eater. What makes up this wonderful dish is the Bolognese sauce, Italian sausage, Ricotta (“an unripen Italian whey cheese with a soft, creamy, consistency, typically used in desserts and pasta dishes” (Oxford English Dictionary)), Grana Padano, and Pomodoro sauce (basically a fancy tomato used in Italian cooking).
For me, loving Italian food is essentially weird because, for my family soul food is 'the food'. By soul food I mean, fried everything, candy yams, greens, banana pudding, an array of cakes and pies etc… Now trust me soul food is good food by no stretch of the imagination. However, no matter how many stares I get I still love Italian food especially, Lasagna Bolognese. If, you have never had Lasagna Bolognese, the Oxford English Dictionary defines Lasagna Bolognese as, “Italian Cookery. served with a cream sauce typically containing prosciutto, ground beef, and cheese.” No matter the definition, what one must remember is that Lasagna Bolognese is simply greatness on a plate.
Now having explained what the dish is you must know the proper way to eat this amazing dish like a true Italian. But, before we get started I must give you the ultimate advice... do not be tempted in any way to start eating straight out of the middle of the dish. Always, and I mean always, start from one of the continue on your success to eating like a true Italian.
  1. Lasagna Bolognese is presented to you on a piping hot plate. At that very moment when this dish hits the table put fresh parmesan cheese right over the top of the dish.
  2. Get a smaller plate and pour some olive oil on to the plate and add some fresh cracked pepper. The grab you a nicely sized piece of Rosemary Bread.
  3. Take your fork and knife and cut a decently sized piece of Lasagna Bolognese and place it in your mouth. While chewing take a piece of bread and put one end on the olive oil plate and do one full circle around the plate, in order to get all the flavors into the bread.
  4. Place the bread in your mouth and thoroughly enjoy all the combinations of flavors floating in your mouth.

After you have completed all of those steps you have officially succeed on eating the perfect Italian dish like an Italian. This one dish was a life changer for me and is why I love my Italian food no matter what anyone says.
